Look Inside Yourself

By: Jason Robinson
This is a story, about a man
Who awoke with a start, by the condition of his heart.

Hey Doc, I can't sleep,
with the way my heart is beating.
Right now, I'm so cold,
will I make it through this evening.

I took the pills you told me to.
You told me to, you said take two
And at the time I had no clue,
I had no clue what they could do

Introspect and honesty,
both had a strange effect on me
Changed the way I think, and the way I see,
I took them down with a cup of tea

Listen up Doc, I'm a very busy man
I am at lost please help me understand
Why the home of my love and my trust
Is a habitat of pain and lust

Just tried to take my pulse,
but grabbed my chest as it convulsed
In case you misunderstood
my heart is up to no good.

The human heart is a twisted thing
And it does its best not to cause a scene
For fear someone will look inside
And see the gaping hole it hides

Behind a mask, and a cloak of lies
It keeps itself well disguised
Name the price to make it whole
And watch it sell its friend the soul

I flipped open my rib cage
Like it was the last page
Of a drawn out mystery
That took some time for me to see

That the mastermind behind all these crimes
Was the same one controlling my vital signs
Despite its size and its small reach
It had me dancing to its own beat

Tonight I'm gonna draw the line
I'll grab some bleach and turpentine
And hit the kitchen sink, until I think
I've cleaned out each weak link

What I see go down the drain
does not look right, and reeks of pain
The mask, the cloak, deceitful hood.
The garbage disposal never sounded so good.

The human heart is a twisted thing
And it does its best not to cause a scene
For fear someone will look inside
And see the gaping hole it hides

Behind a mask, and a cloak of lies
It keeps itself well disguised
Name the price to make it whole
And watch it sell its friend the soul

The human heart is a twisted thing
And it does its best not to cause a scene
For fear someone will look inside
And see the gaping hole it hides

Behind a mask, and a cloak of lies
It keeps itself well disguised
Name the price to make it whole
And watch it sell its friend the soul

"Knock, Knock, Knock," who's there?
How long have you been standing there?
Watching me wash my heart away.
Wait don't go, please won't you stay?

I dropped my heart, and the truth fell out
Now I know what I'm all about
Quick to say others' motives are wrong
I couldn't even decipher my own.

Here! Think fast
Take this quick shovel pass
Tonight I give my heart away
There's one last thing for me to say

The human heart is a twisted thing
Look inside, it's so obscene
Place it in the right hands,
And say goodbye to all its evil plans.

This hole in my chest, has me chilled to the core
Knees to the ground, and hands hit the floor
A voice so calm, I know it'll be fine
My hearts in His palms, with a new design

The next breath I take, it might be my last
Each moment of my life, gone by in one flash
I glance at the clock, both hands on nine
That's about the time that I flatlined.

ABOUT

Sound Advice

My love and fascination of music drew me to music composition. Combined with the joy of thoroughly communicating my feelings and thoughts, songwriting became something I wanted to share with others. The chance that others might identify with my personal experiences and observations while nodding or singing along, and the prospect of having someone's attention for a couple of minutes, and possibly impacting them positively for a lifetime. These were my motivations for recording Sound Advice.
